Founding Engineer / Head of Tech

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Founding Engineer / Head of Tech to take ownership of the technical development of a rapidly growing digital commerce platform.

This role offers the opportunity to work directly with the founder to expand and scale a live commerce technology platform already serving real customers.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the product architecture, building new features, and establishing the engineering foundation for future growth.

Remote (Southeast Asia timezone)

Key Responsibilities

Platform Development

  • Develop and extend a multi-tenant commerce platform used by brands and partners.

  • Build new product features based on business and operational needs.

  • Maintain and improve existing backend and frontend systems.

Technical Ownership

  • Take responsibility for system architecture and technical decisions.

  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability of the platform.

  • Identify areas for optimization and improvement in the codebase.

AI-Assisted Development

  • Use modern AI tools to accelerate development and problem solving.

  • Implement efficient workflows combining traditional engineering practices with AI support.

Product Collaboration

  • Work directly with the founder to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Evaluate new product ideas and assess technical feasibility.

Team Building

  • Help establish the engineering function as the company grows.

  • Support onboarding and mentorship of future developers.

Technology Stack

  • Backend: Elixir / Phoenix / Ash framework

  • Frontend: React / TypeScript

  • Multi-tenant architecture

Requirements

Experience

  • 2–5+ years of software development experience.

  • Strong ability to learn new technologies independently.

Technical Skills

  • Backend development experience in any major language.

  • Experience building or maintaining web applications.

  • Familiarity with modern development tools and workflows.

Additional Skills

  • Experience using AI tools in software development is highly desirable.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and self-directed learning mindset.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
